The lawsuit was originally filed in August, 2007 by attorney David Casselman on behalf of Plaintiff Aaron Leider against the LA Zoo claiming that the treatment of elephants at the zoo which has resulted in numerous deaths was not only cruel but also a waste of taxpayer funds. In May, 2008, the city won a Motion for Summary Judgment which was then appealed by Casselman. The Appellate Court ruled in Casselman's favor, saying that there were indeed triable issues. The city then appealed to the State Supreme Court to overturn the ruling, but the Supreme Court denied their request. |
